GLG Law recently brought together leading voices in artificial intelligence and litigation for an engaging panel discussion at GLG’s New York headquarters. The event, moderated by General Counsel Laurence Herman, featured insights from AI expert Vince Walden (CEO, Kona AI) alongside seasoned litigators Ivie Serioux (Partner, Littler Mendelson PC) and Frances M. Green (Partner, Epstein Becker Green).
The Future of Litigation
The conversation tackled one of the most pressing questions facing the legal profession: How will AI fundamentally reshape litigation workflows and outcomes? The panelists explored both the promise and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into legal practice, from current tools being used by major firms to the potential of emerging agentic AI technologies.
A key theme emerged around the balance between innovation and responsibility. While clients increasingly expect law firms to leverage AI for more efficient, effective representation, the panelists emphasized the critical importance of maintaining ethical standards and preserving core legal competencies. Many firms are already using AI to streamline document review, accelerate due diligence, and improve legal research through natural-language search and predictive analytics. At the same time, there is caution (and for good reason!) around considering replicating or replacing human expertise when it comes to high-stakes advocacy, nuanced client counseling, and complex strategic judgment.
On top of protecting clients and ensuring they are getting the best from the law firms that they partner with, it’s also important for lawyers themselves to maintain a sharp understanding of case law, how to perform more efficient legal research, and how to think critically to support their clients’ needs.
The discussion revealed that successful adaptation to AI will require both firms and individual attorneys to engage in thoughtful self-reflection. As AI continues to disrupt traditional business models and redefine professional roles, those who succeed, in the legal industry as well as other industries, will be the ones who approach change with great clarity and care, according to the panel.
The regulatory landscape and ethical considerations surrounding AI implementation were also central topics, as legal professionals work to establish best practices in this rapidly evolving field.
GLG Law hosts thought leadership events bringing together industry experts and legal professionals to explore emerging trends.
