Job Summary

GLG’s Data Operations team powers the data that enables GLG to efficiently identify relevant experts with high precision and accuracy for its clients. The Data Operations team is responsible for a broad set of structured data on its experts.

The Data Librarian on the Data Operations team is primarily responsible for identifying, building and maintaining a series of taxonomies and associated metadata that enables our powerful search capabilities. This role will work directly with users to understand their needs in addition to analyzing data to understand usage patterns to develop and maintain GLG’s taxonomies.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Builds and maintains a series of taxonomies including crosswalks and associated metadata.
  • Works closely with stakeholders in the business and engineering to understand their needs. Designs and implements changes to the taxonomies to satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Analyzes relevant data as it pertains to usage of the taxonomies. Translates usage patterns into data solutions. Addresses issues that arise in its on-going usage.
  • Develops processes around various data cleaning and creation exercises. Creates training and monitors progress on data cleaning tasks completed by offshore resources.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least two (2) years of experience defining, building, or maintaining taxonomies or ontologies.
  • Bachelor's degree (Master Preferred) in Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program

and/or

Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics or Computational Linguistics

  • Relevant work experience with data analysis, collection development, discovery services, electronic resources management, or technical services in an academic or public library.
  • Ability to work effectively within teams and independently.
  • Flexibility and willingness to expand or shift the range of responsibilities to meet evolving needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python or SQL
  • Experience with taxonomy tools like Synaptica, Smartlogic Semaphore or Pool Party.
  • Implementing natural language processing (NLP) and/or large language model (LLM) data projects

Compensation: GLG is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Actual compensation is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. Certain roles may also be eligible for incentive compensation.

The anticipated hiring base salary range for this role is:
$65,600$96,000 USD
