SURVEY DETAILS
TARGET POPULATION

For this Network Survey, GLG surveyed 70 senior executives with knowledge of the automotive semiconductor industry within US and Europe (UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy). This is the third iteration in this tracker series.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents commented on the impact of semiconductor shortage on the automotive production line, different product categories and car domains, as well as the main causes for limited semiconductor supply.
  • The survey also gathered the expert’s views on the outlook of the industry for 2025 in terms of cost changes, demand expected and semiconductor capacity change.
  • Lastly, the survey looked into the current state of the semiconductor supply shortage, assessing when it is expected to be resolved, and how the industry has dealt with it so far.

Examples of findings:

  • Over six-in-ten (63%) respondents agree that semiconductor shortages have impacted the EV production more than ICE production.
  • Over four-in-ten (43%) experts agree that supply shortages will recover by the second half of 2025.
  • China (77%) and the US (64%) continue to be among the top countries for which experts anticipate seeing highest growth in chip capacity in 2025.

Deliverables

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, David Smith, Technical Assessment Consultant, and former Vice President at Lam Research Corporation.

  • 1 x Individual responses (“raw data”) in Excel.
  • 1 x PPT report with aggregated data.
  • Executive summary with key takeaways and highlights from the raw data.

Sample Questions

  • Which, if any, of these semiconductor product categories are currently experiencing supply shortages within the automotive industry?
  • Which of the following constraints do you believe is causing a bottle neck for chip output?
  • What is your expectation for the cost of semiconductors within the automotive industry in the next 12 months?
  • What is the likelihood of there being an overcapacity situation for automotive semiconductors within the industry by the end of 2024?
  • Which of the following semiconductor suppliers do you believe benefits the most from the increased demand for EV/electrification chips?
  • Based on your knowledge, how has the automotive industry addressed the semiconductor shortage so far?
  • What do you think will be the continued impact of the semiconductor shortage on the automotive industry for the next 3-5 years?
