Network Survey Roundup: Volume II

Lesedauer: 4 Minuten

The world changes quickly, and quantitative data can inform our perspectives and help us better understand complex markets and audiences. Toward that end, GLG regularly conducts targeted surveys to provide timely insights on the most topical themes impacting business today.

We call these Network Surveys.

Survey topics range from category trends to supply chain changes, market sizing and diligence, brand perception, to much more. GLG’s experienced researchers partner with expert Network Members to develop detailed survey questions that uncover deep market insights.

Below is a selection of recent Network Survey data points. Every month we’ll provide three to five data points from multiple markets for a quick look into the work we’re doing to bring insights to light.

Network Survey: Container Shipping II

According to a Fortune Business Insight report, the cargo shipping market size is expected to hit 13.19 billion tons by 2028. In this environment, GLG conducted a survey of 60 senior executives at shipping companies from APAC, EMEA, and the Americas. Of those we surveyed, 93% expect global freight rates to continue growing significantly.

When we asked them about bunker surcharges, nearly all our respondents expected them to be introduced, especially in the context of rising oil prices.

Network Survey: Freight Forwarding

A recent report by Absolute Markets Insights valued the global freight forwarding market at $170 billion USD as a result of a surge in demand from e-commerce and pharmaceutical sectors. To open our own window into this market, GLG surveyed 60 senior executives at freight forwarding companies in APAC, EMEA, and the Americas.

When we asked them about the impact that environmental concerns would have on transportation costs, 89% of those we surveyed said they expect costs to increase in the next couple of years.

Network Survey: Hydrogen IV

With increased concern for the environment and conventional energy prices rising quickly, hydrogen is looking like a viable power source for many countries. The U.K., for one, has doubled its hydrogen targets, aiming for 10GW of hydrogen production capacity by 2030 with at least half coming from green hydrogen.

To uncover more about the future of hydrogen, GLG conducted a survey of 45 senior executives and users of hydrogen in energy and industrials industries in the U.S. and Europe.

When we asked them to rank their top concerns about hydrogen production, our panel indicated that increased production costs were a top concern (78%), followed by increased safety procedures (58%) and personnel training for new safety protocols (42%).

Network Survey: Pharma CDMOs III

The demands of COVID-19 drove huge growth among contract development and manufacturing companies (CDMOs). From here, outsourcing will likely increase as pharma companies put a greater emphasis on R&D or strive to compete with newer virtual companies.

To find out more about the current landscape for pharma and CDMOs, GLG surveyed 60 senior executives working at pharmaceutical companies who are currently outsourcing to CDMOs across the U.S. and Europe

When we asked them about how they were using CDMOs, they told us that the main service currently outsourced to CDMOs is analytical/microbial testing, at 73%, rising from 65% in October 2021.

Network Survey: OCTG Industry

In 2021, the global oil country tubular goods (OCTG) market reached a value of $21.11 billion USD, according to an IMARC study. The study also foresees considerable growth, expecting the market to reach a value of $31.85 billion by 2027.

To shed further light on the OCTG space, GLG conducted a survey of 80 senior executives and procurement professionals working in the oil and gas space across the U.S., Middle East, and Europe.

Of those we surveyed, 100% currently purchase their steel tubes from a vendor. But, when we asked them if they saw their company manufacturing tubes themselves in the next 5-10 years, a small margin said that it was either likely (5%) or extremely likely (4%).
