GLG hosted more than 100 guests for a half-day conference on the future of social impact at its global headquarters in New York on Thursday, October 24, 2019. The program featured presentations from GLG Social Impact Fellows and candid panel discussions from a wide range of thought leaders under the theme: Changing the Rules for Changing the World. Attendees included clients, Network Members, Social Impact Fellows, and other invited guests.
As companies are increasingly judged on their willingness to help contribute to social change, panelists were asked to consider what this moment means for how governments, nonprofits, foundations, social entrepreneurs, and the companies themselves collaborate to drive progress.
GLG Social Impact Fellow Julie Cordua of Thorn introduced the opening panel featuring GLG CEO Paul Todd; David Gelles, Corner Office columnist and business reporter at The New York Times; Ken Mehlman, Global Head of Public Affairs and co-Head of Global Impact at KKR; and Kathy Wylde, CEO of the Partnership for New York City.

GLG Fellow Amit Paley of The Trevor Project introduced a panel discussion moderated by Director of Social Impact Jen Field and featuring Cristina Shapiro of the Goldman Sachs Foundation and Erin Robert of J.P. Morgan Chase.

GLG Fellow Aimée Eubanks Davis of Braven joined Cammie Erickson of LinkedIn for a conversation on how expanding access to networking opportunities can help reduce economic inequality.

GLG Fellow Gayatri Datar of EarthEnable introduced the morning’s closing panel, moderated by Betty Liu, Vice Chairman of NYSE Group and former Bloomberg TV anchor, and featuring Henry Timms, CEO of Lincoln Center, and Jeremy Heimans, CEO of Purpose, co-authors of New Power.

The event capped off a three-day convening during which GLG welcomed its newest class of GLG Social Impact Fellows, nine social innovators from around the world. GLG’s Social Impact Fellowship provides no-cost access to GLG’s knowledge marketplace to organizations working to solve some of society’s most urgent challenges. Now entering its sixth year, the GLG Fellowship counts 54 social entrepreneurs in its worldwide community.
