TARGET POPULATION

For this Network Survey, GLG surveyed 50 senior executives within the satellite industry across the US, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Spain and MENA region. This is the second iteration in this tracker series.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents commented on the current scenario and the future outlook of the satellite industry in terms of revenue, demand and supply, within different sectors and geographies, as well as the consolidation moves expected in the industry.
  • The survey explored LEOs (low-earth orbit satellites) and how they are expected to impact the satellite service providers.
  • Lastly, the survey examined the disruption caused by SpaceX’s Starlink in the European satellite market share.

Examples of findings:

  • 96%, 95%, and 94% of respondents are expecting to see an increase in demand from the following sectors respectively: government & military, corporate networks, and earth observation.
  • Over half (52%) of experts expect operators to consolidate with SSPs in the next 3 years.
  • A total of 75% of experts declared to be somewhat or moderately concerned with Starlink’s capturing a large share of the European market and 68% believe forming strategic partnerships is the main step to improve competitiveness.

Deliverables

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, Karl Baker, President and Founder at Summit Space Corporation.

  • Over the next 3 years, how do you expect market demand to change annually (i.e. in terms of CAGR), in each geographic area?
  • How significantly will the heritage GEO satellite business migrate to LEO satellite constellations in the next 3 years?
  • In the next 3 years, what is the likelihood that LEO satellite constellations will continue to cannibalize the GEO communications business?
  • In your view, which satellite manufacturers are best positioned to be market leaders, going forward?
  • How concerned are you about SpaceX’s Starlink capturing a large share of the European satellite communications market?
  • By how much do you think SpaceX Starlink’s current market share will change by 2030?
