TARGET POPULATION

For this Network Survey, GLG surveyed 70 senior executives working within the chocolate manufacturing industry across the US and Europe (UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain). This is the second iteration in this tracker series.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents assessed the current and expected future prices of cocoa and the cost reduction methods for manufacturers.
  • Furthermore, the survey also explored the problems related to high cocoa prices and new trends regarding reformulation of ingredients.
  • Lastly, the research captured sustainable cocoa farming practices amid climate change.

Examples of findings:

  • 50% and 49% of respondents reported the rising cost of raw materials and supply chain disruptions respectively are the most significative challenges faced by the chocolate industry.
  • Nestle is regarded as the best cocoa supplier in terms of quality, on-time deliveries, and is expected to gain market share in the next 5 years
  • 43% of respondents stated that it is likely to substitute chocolate tablets with chocolate compound due to rising cocoa prices.

Deliverables

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, Erwan Velin, former Senior Marketing Director Europe (Chocolate) at Mondelez International.
