TARGET POPULATION

GLG surveyed 70 senior executives working with battery recycling companies across the US, Europe, MENA and Asia. This is the third iteration in this tracker series.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • The survey looked into the current perceptions, future outlook and profitability of the battery recycling industry.
  • Respondents evaluated the battery collection process, the costs associated with it and where the responsibility of collection should fall.
  • Furthermore, the survey also looked into the materials used in the recycling process and the costs attributed to these, as well as the current and future refurbishment trends across various regions, deep diving into the factors in favour and against it.

Examples of findings:

  • Over seven-in-ten (71%) experts agree or strongly agree that the battery recycling industry will become highly profitable in the future. Furthermore, almost half (46%) of experts are expecting to see profit from the industry by 2030.
  • Asia remains the location where black mass refining is to be most concentrated, according to over four-in-ten (43%) respondents.
  • Over a third of respondents (37%) stated that China is responsible for 51-80% of the global EV battery refurbishment.

Deliverables

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, Wim Cambien, former Development and Contract Manager for Battery Recycling, Umicore.
