SURVEY DETAILS

TARGET POPULATION

The GLG Surveys team interviewed 50 senior European airport executives. This is the second survey to follow the first one conducted in April 2021.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents commented on passenger volumes and how these have changed over time, revisiting the topics from the first wave in April 2021.
  • The research assessed main factors that can accelerate or slow down the recovery to pre COVID-19 levels and captured experts’ insights on airlines’ flights volume projections for the next 12 months.
  • Lastly, the survey also gathered airport executives’ views on COVID-19 passports and how their introduction will align with country quarantining restrictions, along with projections on countries that will recover fastest from the impact of COVID-19.

Examples of findings:

  • Respondents are more optimistic on the timeline for returning to pre COVID-19 passenger volumes, with 78% estimating this will happen by the end of 2022. Just 36% estimated this timeline 6 months ago.
  • There has been a shift in terms of the perceived factors that will contribute to recovery, with 40% now believing the most important factor is a globally approved standard for international travel – a considerable raise from just 8% in April 2021.
  • Revenues are now increasing in duty-free outlets, retail, and food and beverage. Just 6 months ago, 100% of respondents were experiencing revenue decreases. Six months on, 100% are seeing revenue increases.
