TARGET POPULATION
GLG interviewed 65 senior executives working in the drilling space (onshore and/or offshore) in Americas and EMEA.
What will you learn from this survey?
- These respondents discussed about their drilling activity and contractual impact in the last 12 months.
- The survey investigated the impact of COVID-19 on the drilling market and the respondents’ projections for the short and medium term.
- Lastly, respondents commented on initiatives taken to mitigate client pricing pressures and factors they believe will affect the most their activity levels for the next years.
Examples of findings:
- 45% of the respondents mentioned that their drilling activity has decreased by more than 20% in the last 12 months.
- 63% of the participants have had their contracts terminated/ suspended by clients due to COVID-19, of which 54% have been compensated by their clients.
- 73% of the sample believe COVID-19 will likely cause an increase/acceleration in digitalisation in their operations (e.g. remote equipment performance data collection and equipment malfunction trouble shooting).
DELIVERABLES
The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, Roger Hodgson, former Commercial and Marketing Director at Weatherford Drilling International.

- 70 senior R&D professionals working at large FMCG companies discussed typical R&D budgets, selection criteria for 3rd party lab testing providers and whether or not they prefer in-house testing. They will also provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the main providers and impact of COVID-19 on testing requirements.

Specifically, they discussed the shift away from plastics and drivers of this behaviour, likely beneficiaries of this shift (opportunities for alternative types of packaging materials), rate of packaging change in terms of formats / print / SKUs and impact of COVID-19 on different types of fibre- based packaging (on costs / purchasing / supply / pricing mechanisms etc.).

- Rolls-Royce Customers
- 50 buyers of Rolls-Royce engines from aeronautics and defence space discussed about the key trends within the industry and impacts of past economic downturns, outlook on the sector, including underlying risks and opportunities.
- Questionnaire was drafted by Chris Weir, former Engineering and Technology Executive and Strategy and Business Development Vice Present at Rolls-Royce.
- Battery Innovation
- 70 executives across the US and Europe working for an automotive OEM, consumer electronics, grid storage firm (utilities, independent power producers, developers, system integrators), telecom, datacentre, high volume battery manufacturing firm to comment on the latest innovations of lithium-ion batteries and how it is used by different verticals.
