GLG interviewed 70 senior executives within the cinema industry in the US and Europe.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents discussed the current operational concerns within the space, such as attendance and future outlook.
  • The survey also investigated the relationship between studios (such as Disney, Warner Brothers, Universal, Paramount, Sony and Lionsgate) and cinemas in the US and Europe.
  • Lastly, the research gathered the experts’ views on which factors will help drive overall theatrical attendance in the coming years (2023-2025).

Examples of findings:

  • Overall, 80% of respondents stated that less than 20% of their screens were permanently closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • In Europe, 22% of the experts mentioned they expect film rental costs to increase in the coming years (2023-2025), compared to 45% recorded in the US.
  • When asked which factors will help drive overall theatrical attendance in the next period, 42% respondents selected “availability of cinema subscription programs” as the most important factor.

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, David Ownby, former EVP and CFO at Regal Entertainment Group.

The standard deliverable includes:
