In a world where workers are rethinking how they balance the flexibility independence offers against the security of traditional employment, how do we create a future of work that works for everyone?<\/p>\n
That was one of the questions posed at\u00a0Web Summit Lisbon<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month \u2013 where more than 60,000 people gathered from around the world to hear 1,200 speakers \u2013 and where I participated in a\u00a0panel<\/a>\u00a0on the rise of the so-called \u201cgig economy.\u201d<\/p>\n I was joined by Oisin Hanrahan, CEO of\u00a0Handy<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 which provides home cleaning and handymen services on-demand \u2013 and Andy Stern, former head of the 2-million-member\u00a0Service Employees International Union<\/a>. Our discussion was moderated by Sabrina Siddiqui, a reporter for\u00a0The Guardian<\/i>.<\/p>\n Our panel had a tough assignment \u2013 and it\u2019s one we think about a lot at GLG, where we are building the gig economy for top professionals. We connect our clients to our membership of more than 500,000 subject-matter experts \u2013 whose \u201cgigs\u201d let them monetize, on a project-by-project basis, the specialized knowledge and skills they\u2019ve built throughout their careers.<\/p>\n I was grateful to share the stage with these three amazing thinkers, and I\u2019m excited to share six themes that emerged from our panel.<\/p>\n
