Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) is seeking a Greater China-based Senior Manager, Business Development to support the development and growth of new corporate clients, and to develop and maintain effective existing relationships with leading Technology companies. The professional will have direct responsibility for GLG’s focus on China client relationships, including developing deeper relationships with existing clients, understanding opportunities to increase Research product coverage at existing clients, developing organized marketing activities and hosting GLG exclusive Events in China, and growing GLG’s client base.

 

Corporate segment is the fastest growing segment of GLG over past 3 years. We started the Segment in 2017 and although it was a shaky start, by this point the Segment has become a fully functional team that is driving significant growth for the business. At this point we have basically penetrated 80% of the key logos within the China tech space. For the next 2~3 years our focus will be deepening our penetration into these larger companies, whilst exploring BD opportunities in other sectors including healthcare, industrials and automotive.

The business is built around the core phone consultation platform as both a key revenue driver and the ‘top of the funnel’ of the business. Part of the way to grow revenue is to increase the ‘attach rate’ of larger projects to phone consultations. In order to become an one-stop partner for corporate clients, GLG is offering varied product solutions ranged from report, survey, placement to master-class, training and etc. There are of course many challenges within, including how to maintain a high quality product whilst working with outside experts.

 

Senior Business Development Manager’s main responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage and grow book of existing clients in the corporate market and drive commercial result by providing research solutions in the form of phone consultations, market research, advisory and consulting work, survey, and other in-depth solutions
  • Establish solution-based thought partnership with corporate clients of the firm. Plan and hold client optimizations, formal meetings and socials with clients and prospects
  • Identify, prospect, and qualify potential new clients
  • Manage the commercials of the book including contracting, revenue and margin management, and resolving legal & compliance issues
  • Support Corporate Segment Leader in strategic initiatives
  • Partner with client solutions and council development team to deliver best-in-class research solutions
  • Support the hosting of GLG roundtables, conferences, and teleconferences
  • Enhance GLG brand and build entrenched relationships in the financial service industry in Greater China

Ideal applicants should have the following attributes:

  • 6 - 8 years of experience in business development, account management, or other client facing functions, ideally in professional service industries or finance service
  • Deep understanding in TMT sector or relevant experience in working with Tech companies
  • Demonstrated track record with growing institutional client base and winning new businesses
  • Experience in building thought partnership and offering consultative solutions to enterprise clients
  • Outstanding communication skills with both external and internal parties; capable of liaising effectively with global counterparts
  • Proficiency (oral and written) in English & Mandarin
