Director, Talent Development APAC

Reports to: Head of Talent Development

Location:   Hong Kong or Singapore

Position Summary

The Director, Talent Development, APAC region will play an essential role in enabling a positive culture at GLG. S/he/They will help embed a high-performance culture and create a positive, accountability-based work environment. The successful candidate will translate and deploy best-in-class talent development processes and programs in way that effectively impacts GLG’s culture and employees in the APAC region. The Director, Talent Development APAC will lead design of selected enterprise-wide development initiatives, often working with external partners, as part of an integrated global Development team.  The Director will execute regional deployment of all enterprise talent development programs, collaborating closely with Talent Development team members based in other regions.  S/he/They will also provide thought leadership and executional accountability for the APAC region for Leadership Development, Talent Reviews, Training and Learning, Organizational Development, Onboarding and Retention.

Major Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Regional HR Business Partners, Executives and Leaders to reinforce the merits of ongoing talent and learning initiatives while promoting new programs and supporting their implementation.
  • Deliver global and regional leadership, learning and talent programs; contribute to the design of new enterprise programs, and lead design of selected programs, including:
  • Enhancing existing training programs, including review and enhancement of external partners’ work
  • Ensuring effective on-boarding of new GLG employees in the APAC region, in partnership with operational and business unit onboarding
  • Developing professional skills of individual contributors
  • Linking learning to long-term employee development and career paths
  • Developing strategies and ongoing feedback mechanisms to enable continued learning and effective application of learning, and measurement of learning effectiveness, in partnership with program owners.
  • Deploying regional initiatives to develop high-potential APAC employees and “GLG Leaders of the Future”
  • Partner with the HR Business Partners, Regional Leaders and other stakeholders to effectively implement development programs for GLG in APAC. This includes:
  • Acting as coach and advisor to Regional Leaders on talent development needs, in partnership with HR Business Partners
  • Overseeing regional deployment of efficient and effective performance management process and tools, aligned with the company values and core competencies
  • Facilitating the assimilation of new leaders (leveraging an established framework) to lay the foundation for open communications, work planning and problem-solving between the Leader and their direct reports
  • Overseeing change management associated with talent development initiatives, in partnership with global Talent Development team

Ideal Experience

  • 8+ years of Human Resources experience, including time spent in organizations known for strong competency in human resources/talent management
  • Demonstrated track record of talent development design and delivery, with experience in talent management – assessment, development, assimilation and retention
  • Experience in an environment with a diverse and distributed workforce, along with proven success localizing enterprise-wide talent processes to suit diverse needs in the APAC region
  • Champion for embedding diversity and inclusion into talent, learning and leadership development
  • Strong business acumen and a proven record of collaboration with talent development peers, HR Business Partners and line management to design and implement efficient and effective organizational development, leadership development and professional learning programs
  • Experience with career pathing and skill development for professional individual contributors
  • Demonstrated experience in designing programs that are impactful, pragmatic and cost-effective
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience in reviewing potential vendor / external partnerships and managing relationships and delivery of services
  • Experience facilitating large-scale and effective change initiatives
  • APAC region knowledge or local language (Mandarin) would be an advantage
